He graduated in Science from Lucknow University and proceeded to Germany, where he completed his Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Technical University of Karlsruhe in 1966 and then returned to India. Working in India as engineer and in marketing, Bro. Gautam has had a very wide experience in  vast variety of industries and trade. He has travelled to most continents for business promotion.  Bro.Gautam was initiated in Lodge Raisina No. 97 in August 1980 and after going through the usual ladder became its Worshipful Master in 1990. That was the year that Ritual Working Competition was made mandatory in the Northern Region. Under his leadership the Lodge received the Trophy of Best Lodge in Ritual Working and he himself was adjudged as the Runner-up Worshipful Master. In the same year Lodge Raisina became the first Lodge to be the Governor of Gen. William Masonic Polyclinic.

The history of Lodge Raisina during the 1990s is the Masonic Bio-data of Bro. Gautam. The Lodge received almost 60% percent of Ritual Working Trophies, many times the trophy for the Most Outstanding Lodge in the Region and All India Trophy for Maximum Charity. The Lodge and its members donated generously for the Masonic Public School to build  its first two blocks and many other facilities like the Music Room.

His proficiency in Ritual Working was appreciated by his being appointed by our former Grand Master as Chairman of Panel of Judges for all the four years that the Inter-Region Ritual Working Competition on all India basis was held.

Apart from Rituals, Bro. Gautam has been taking keen interest in Masonic studies. He has, as acting Grand Chaplain in Masonic ceremonies of Consecration etc., studied history and symbolism of various Masonic orders and has delivered a large number of Orations for the benefit of Masons. He has already completed a one year Correspondence Course  in Mark Masonry from the Grand Lodge of South Australia & Northern Territories and was one of the two Indians and first ever foreigners to receive in person Certificates for successfully completing the course at Adelaide in June 2008.
