R.
W. Bro. S. Krishnan born on 14th October 1933, in
Vizianagaram after graduating in Physics did his Post Graduation in Mathematics,
from Delhi University and later qualified in the Civil Services Examination and
joined the Indian Audit and Accounts Service in 1957. After holding many
important and high positions at the level of Secretary to Govt. of India he
retired in October 1991. Even after retirement he continues to be actively
associated with the Consumer Movement as Adviser to a few apex National level
Consumer Organizations, as well as a pioneer in the launch of the Citizens’
Charter Movement in the Country
Proposed by late M. W. Bro. P. M. Sundaram the first Grand Secretary and
seconded by his father, late W. Bro. S. Sivaraman he saw the Light of
Freemasonry, on 28th April, 1954 in Lodge East and West as its first initiate
and as a Lewis, at the age of 20. In his early years progress in the Masonic
ladder was slow due to transferable nature of his Service. Posting to Shillong,
in Assam gave him chance to join Lodge Shillong, in November 1961, where he
occupied the Eastern Chair in 1967. He had the privilege of being installed to
the Eastern Chair on 6 occasions in the craft including in Lodge Elysium No.69,
Lodge Rajdhani No. 197 and Lodge Mayur No.333 as its founder Master.
He
has held many prestigious ranks and positions in the Regional Grand Lodge of
Northern India as well as in the Grand Lodge of India. In Regional Grand Lodge
of Northern Region he had the distinction of holding most of the active ranks
and was conferred the Past Rank of Deputy Regional Grand Master in 1987. In
February 2007, he was appointed as the RGM of Northern Region. He is the Grand
Representative of the Grand Lodge of North Carolina near to Grand Lodge of
India.
He
has been equally active, in the affairs of the Grand Lodge of India. After
holding various active and past ranks, he served as Grand Secretary, from April
1998 to September 2000 and currently holds the rank of Past Deputy Grand Master.
Once again he is serving as the Grand Secretary from October 2006. R.W.Bro.
Krishnan is the Grand Representative of the Grand Lodge of California near to
Grand Lodge of India.

W .Bro. Krishnan was Exalted in Scottish Chapter, 1526 in Shillong on 25th May
1963 and later became a Member of Chapter Shillong No.49 in June 1965. On his
transfer to Delhi, he joined Chapter Sunder Heera No. 40, and became its
Principal Z, in 1976 and has held various ranks in the Regional Grand Chapter of
Northern India as well as in the Supreme Grand Chapter of India. Presently he is
the Grand Superintendent (N.I). In the Supreme Grand Chapter he has held many
active and Past ranks and also served as Grand Scribe Ezra from April 1998 to
September 2000. Presently he holds the past rank of 2nd Grand Principal and is
also serving as Grand Scribe Ezra.

W .Bro. Krishnan was advanced in Mark Lodge Mallet and Chisel No.7, and later
became its Master. Likewise, he was elevated in RAM Lodge P. M. Sundaram No.30,
in May 1972 and later became its Worshipful Commander. He has held various
active and past ranks in Mark Masonry and presently he is the Regional Grand
Mark Master in the Northern Region. He is also a Senior Regional and Grand
Officer in the RAM. In the Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons also, he has held
various past and active ranks besides serving as Grand Secretary of the Grand
Lodge of Mark Master Masons from April 1998 to September 2000. Presently also he
is the Grand Secretary, in the Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons.
After receiving 25 years and 40 years LTS Jewels he received 50 years LTS Jewel
in October 2004 in craft masonry, coinciding with the Golden Jubilee of his
Mother Lodge and also had the distinction of compiling its history. He has
received 25 years and 40 years LTS Jewel in the Chapter. He is also a recipient
of 25 years LTS Jewel, both in the Mark and RAM Degrees.
He
held the first ever Masonic Quiz in 1974 and organized one of the earliest
Masonic Workshops in Kanpur, in 1978. He has to his credit several thought
provoking and interesting Orations at the Consecration of several Craft,
Chapters, Mark and RAM Lodges He has contributed several articles on a variety
of Masonic topics, in various Masonic Magazines including “The Philalethes”. His
article on Freemasonry in the “Speaking Tree” column of the Times of India has
helped spread the message of Freemasonry throughout the country and evoked
favourable response from many potential candidates, from all over the country
intending to join Freemasonry. He also presented a paper on “Developing and
Promoting Cultural and Academic Exchanges among Masons Worldwide” at the 9th
World Conference of Grand Lodges held at Washington in 2008.
R.
W. Bro. Krishnan’s zeal and enthusiasm for Freemasonry, coupled with his vast
administrative experience, rich Masonic knowledge of over 55 years and
charismatic personality, has contributed in no small measure to the development
and advancement of Freemasonry, particularly in the Northern Region. He has
been exemplary in the discharge of his duties of RGM of Northern India and the
Grand Secretary of Grand Lodge of India, which he has been holding for the past
over two years.
A
very dedicated and loving man, a friendly person he is a popular and well-known
and respected Freemason, not only in the Northern Region, but also in the other
Regions as well. Certainly a committed and devoted Freemason, he has, by his
exemplary character and behaviour motivated his officers and the brethren to
practice and demonstrate the distinguishing virtues of Freemasonry.
In
recognition of his yeomen and meritorious service rendered to the cause of
Freemasonry in general and to the Grand Lodge of India in particular, as also,
for his life time contribution to Freemasonry for over 55 years I Justice
Devinder Gupta M.W.the Grand Master, O.S.M. has been pleased to award him the
Grand Master’s Distinguished Order of Service to Masonry. On this occasion, the
Grand Lodge is pleased to present this citation at New Delhi on 7th
day of the month of February, 2009. May the GAOTU grant him long life, happiness and prosperity. |
